Executive Head: Content and Marketing

Taryn’s career has spanned 17 years within the entertainment industry, specifically across documentary film development, cinema content marketing and VOD (video on demand)/IPTV. An academic at heart, Taryn values research and gleaning and interpreting insights, informed by an astute understanding of diverse audiences’ consumer behaviour and psychographics. It is, however, the coming together of the creative and business space that has inspired her career. Taryn has a post graduate diploma in Business Administration and graduated with a Masters in History from the University of Cape Town, where she focused on propaganda and the persuasive use of film and television as a political tool. This led to her working extensively in the local film industry, initially at the Southern African International Film and Television Market (Sithengi) and Cape Town World Cinema Festival, identifying projects for script development and co-financing, managing the African HIVOS international film fund and eventually managing the business market’s operations. Thereafter, Taryn moved into the role of Marketing Manager for local content for Ster Kinekor Distribution, working on the launches of films such as Bunnychow, Bakgat and The Wah Wah Diaries. In 2009 she became the Marketing Manager for Warner Bros. Pictures in South Africa at Times Media Films, launching close to a hundred titles into market and six years later took on the role of GM of Marketing for the newly formed video on demand service, VIDI. Taryn’s work at Discover Digital currently includes managing the marketing and account management of various clients and products as well as the Discover Digital Brand. She further oversees the Content division, which includes sourcing and licensing local and international entertainment and educational content as well as setting up an original productions division.
